Safety warning & terms
Everyone agrees to these before their first scan (version 1). Please read them carefully: a scan tool connects to your vehicle's computers.
⚠️ A scan tool connects to your vehicle's computers. Used wrong, it can drain the battery, cause warning lights, or lead to a wrong repair. If you aren't trained in auto repair, have a professional mechanic check the car.
1. What this tool is
The Zilla Scanner (the web scanner and the Zilla Scan app) reads information from a vehicle (codes, live readings, test results) and explains it. Its results are information to help a trained person decide, not a diagnosis, not a repair, and not a promise that a part is bad or good. Code meanings and AI explanations can be wrong or not fit your exact vehicle.
2. Who should use it
- It's made for professional mechanics and experienced users.
- If you're not a mechanic, use it to read and learn only, and have a professional confirm before replacing parts or driving a car that shows a problem.
- You must be 18 or older.
3. Safety: things that can cause a problem
- Never use it while driving. The driver must not look at the laptop or phone. Use a second person, or park safely first.
- Park safely: park brake ON, in Park (or neutral for a manual), wheels chocked, away from traffic.
- Engine running: only outdoors or with proper exhaust ventilation (carbon monoxide can kill). Keep hands, hair, clothes and cables away from belts, fans and hot parts.
- Battery: leaving the key ON for a long time drains the battery. A weak battery can stop the car from starting. Use a battery maintainer for long sessions.
- Clearing codes turns off the check-engine light but does not fix anything. It also erases the information a mechanic needs and resets the emissions self-tests, so the car can fail an emissions inspection until it's been driven for several days. Only clear codes after the repair is done.
- Never clear airbag (SRS) or ABS / brake warnings to make a light go away. Those systems protect lives. A car with an airbag or brake warning should be checked by a professional before it's driven.
- Adapters: use a good-quality adapter. Cheap adapters can give wrong readings or drop the connection. Unplug it when you're done (some drain the battery).
- Don't unplug the adapter or the computer in the middle of a test.
- Warranties: some vehicle warranties or leases have rules about aftermarket tools. Check yours.
4. Your responsibility
You use the scanner at your own risk. You're responsible for how you use it, for the vehicle you connect it to (you must own it or have the owner's permission), and for any repair, part, or decision you make with its results.
5. We record scanner activity
To keep the service safe and to settle disputes, we record your scanner activity: when you connected and with which adapter, the vehicle (VIN), what was requested from and read from the vehicle, and every action you took (for example clearing codes or running a check), with the date and time. Only Zilla Auto Repair can see these records. We may use them to show what the scanner did and did not do.
6. No warranty
The scanner, its results and its explanations are provided "as is", without any warranty, to the fullest extent the law allows. Not every vehicle, module or adapter works with it, and results can be incomplete.
7. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Zilla Auto Repair and its owner, staff and partners are not responsible for any damage, injury, or loss to a vehicle, person, property or business, including lost time, towing, parts, labor, or a wrong repair, that comes from using the scanner or relying on its results. If we are ever found responsible anyway, the most we owe is what you paid for the scanner pass or subscription in the last 30 days.
8. You agree to protect us
If someone makes a claim against us because of how you used the scanner (for example, on a customer's car), you agree to cover our reasonable costs of that claim.
9. Our software
The scanner and its software belong to Zilla Auto Repair. You may not copy, sell, share, take apart, or try to get around the license, the recording or the safety limits.
10. Disputes
These terms follow the laws of the State of Georgia. Any dispute goes to the courts of Camden County, Georgia, on an individual basis (no class actions).
11. Changes
We may update these terms. If we do, we'll ask you to agree again before your next scan.
